TEST

The peak years of the big band era ran from the late Twenties till around about the mid Sixties. During that period they were at least 10 big bands that dominated the scene, led by such talented musicians and arrangers as Duke Ellington, Artie Shaw, Count Basie, Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman.

As well as these giants of the Big Band scene, there were also a large number of talented musicians who never quite made it to the top,  but left their mark, some of them enjoying chart success  as well as  taking a place  in the history of music during  the Twentieth Century.

These artists came not only from the United States, where the big band scene was particularly strong, but also from the United Kingdom and Europe, which also had a fairly active big-band scene of its own, especially during and after the  Second World War, running into the fifties and even the early sixties.

This page has been set up in order to mark the special contribution throughout the twentieth century that these particular characters brought and will never be forgotten, thanks to a particular song or a memorable performance that they gave.

We take this opportunity to recall just a few of them, and hope that you will recall a memory or two of simpler times through their music.
